What Are the Washington Bankruptcy Exemptions?

The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act was created in 2007 to help homeowners who were struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments. The act allowed homeowners to have a portion of their debt forgiven if they were able to show that they had made a good-faith effort to make their payments. Unfortunately, the act expired at the end of 2013 and has not been renewed. This has left many homeowners who are still struggling to make ends meet without any help from the government.

The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act was a much-needed lifeline for many homeowners during the Great Recession. The act allowed those who had fallen behind on their mortgage payments to have a portion of their debt forgiven. This helped tens of thousands of families stay in their homes and prevented them from going into foreclosure.
