Does Colorado Law Protect Me From Debt Collectors?

Yes, Colorado law does provide protection against debt collectors. According to the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (CFDCPA), debt collectors are prohibited from using unfair or deceptive practices when attempting to collect a debt. For example, they can’t threaten you with violence, false imprisonment, or use obscene language. They also cannot call before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., or contact your place of employment if you have informed them that it is not allowed. Furthermore, they are prohibited from contacting third parties about your debt and falsely representing themselves as attorneys or government representatives in order to intimidate you into paying the debt.
